Block-and-beam flooring provides a strong, durable suspended floor that is efficient to install and suitable for many ground conditions.

We install block-and-beam floor systems for extensions, new buildings and projects where a suspended concrete ground floor is required. The system uses precast concrete beams with infill blocks to create a robust platform above the prepared substructure.

Accurate bearing levels, beam positioning, ventilation provision and perimeter detailing are essential. We coordinate the floor installation with foundations, sleeper walls, drainage runs and incoming services so that penetrations and access requirements are addressed before the floor is completed.

Once installed, the floor can be prepared for insulation, membranes, screeds and the intended final floor finish. Block and beam is particularly useful where ground conditions make a traditional ground-bearing slab less suitable.

Planning the floor structure and bearings

The beam layout, bearing positions, finished floor level and ventilation requirements are reviewed before installation. Foundations and sleeper walls must be correctly positioned and strong enough to receive the specified precast units.

Beams are placed in accordance with the layout, infill blocks are fitted securely and perimeter or opening details are completed as specified. Service penetrations and drainage routes are coordinated in advance to avoid unnecessary cutting or disruption later.

A coordinated suspended-floor package

Block-and-beam floors are particularly useful where ground conditions, ventilation or programme requirements make a traditional ground-bearing slab less suitable. Correct preparation beneath and around the floor is essential to its performance.
